It’s a Wii World
Posted by: | CommentsThis year for Christmas (and in an effort to ramp up my enthusiam for exercise), I decided to complete my trio of consoles and add the Wii to my collection.
Wii with Wii fit and Wii sports is fantastically excellent fun. The movement using the Wii remote to emulate your favourite sports and exercises is just brilliant. Wii tennis is a real favourite of mine, because it is such fun batting the ball back and forth over the net. Julie likes Wii bowling, and Michael is a whizz at Wii boxing.
Wii fit is also completely brilliant even though it weighs you and then makes your little Wii avatar as fat or as thin as you actually are. My Wii fit age was +3 years, which and I am really overweight still so I need to work a lot harder.
The Wii fit games certainly give you a good workout, and the personal coach helps you through the exercises with great precision.
I just love my Wii and Wii fit, it is so much fun!
Love in your heart
Posted by: | CommentsAs Christmas time approaches for the Christians in our society many people join in with the celebrations. Some people even re-brand the holiday to “Winterval” which in my opinion is a contradiction, because you either celebrate Christmas as a Christian or you don’t. All this “me too” approach to humanism irritates me a little because as humanists we don’t need to hang on the coat tails of the religious.
However the idea behind Christmas of loving your fellow human beings isn’t lost on me by any stretch of the imagination. In fact I was thinking about what kind of song humanists could sing instead of something overly religious. Then it sprang into my head from the dim and distant past, a song I’d heard in the movie “Scrooged” entitled “Put a little love in your heart”. I looked up the song on iTunes and sure enough there it was! Not a biblical phrase in sight but a very humanist message of love and kindness for our fellow man.
I do not celebrate the Christian festival of Christmas, but I certainly do use the new year as a time of reflection and celebration. So when midnight rolls around on 31st December 2008, I will be thinking of friends, family and the others who are not as fortunate as me. I will reflect on my attitude to myself and others, and think how can I do better in 2009? Maybe in my own small way I can help inspire and change the lives of others.
I’m not big on the spending, the eating and the getting drunk, but the idea of challenging myself to do better is something that I can relate to.
It’s all coming off

This week continues to be a positive for my fat loss goals as I stepped on the scales this morning to find that I had lost weight over this last week. My weight is down another 0.6kg, and my body fat percentage has dropped once again. What is great is the fact I am losing fat, and my muscle mass is going up, mainly due to my diet which is far more sensible now. My energy levels feel a lot better too, and I am not so tired all the time.
I’ve not completely given up drinking but I am limiting what I have. I went out with some colleagues the other night and had a few pints of beer, but didn’t over indulge myself. However having missed the last train home, I ended up catching a different train, and had to walk about 7 miles in the freezing cold as I couldn’t get a cab. So I probably burned off a couple of pints with that activity.
The exercise is the next thing I need to get on track. I have been hitting the gym about twice a week, and I really need to up my game if I want to keep seeing these muscle gains continue and watch the fat drop off.
I am pleased with the continued results so I will make sure I keep it up.
